Nitpicking, but couldn't they get the wardrobes right?

This show is always on the air somewhere - they couldn't have referenced it for the wardrobes? For example: the Spring Fling dresses that were identical, but different colors and nowhere near the styles of the actual dresses.

And why was the Slumber Party confession outside in some field and not in the Walsh living room?

Casting was good (except for Brian Austin Green - I didn't know who he was supposed to be until they finally said his name), staying close to the actual true-to-life events was good, but the wardrobe really irritated me.

The Jennie and Shannen actresses were excellent - hopefully if they make a Charmed, they'll cast this girl again.

Also, in the Spring Fling, Jenni and Shannen were supposed to be wearing the same dress! I hate to be nitpicky but true fans of the show will notice this...

I remember that episode where Brenda and Kelly shopped together, tried on the same dress, both pretended like they didn't like it to throw the other one off, than showed up wearing it and demanded the other one change. diva-bitch syndrome

wasn't that awkward dress that Donna couldn't sit down in and could only stand around uncomfortably really red?

reply

Yes, Donna's dress was red in the show. In the movie, Kelly's dress was red and Donna's was like an aqua color.

I was wondering about the sleep over confession scene myself. I thought it looked like it was outside at the beach or somewhere. And I though it had originally happend inside the Walshes house

This movie parallels The Monkees movie (Daydream Believers (2000)) in many ways, which includes the intentional avoidance of doing wardrobes or reenactments exactly the same as what we fans are familiar with (like with Daydream Believers, in the Daydream Believer music segment the band is wearing all white, which is what they actually wore in other music segments, such as Star Collector and Daily Nightly).

My guess is that they don't want to fall into the cheesiness of trying too hard to make everything exactly the way it was before since ultimately that would be impossible. Instead we'll see things which have strong similarities or more-or-less capture the "essense" of that time.

I agree about the casting being good. I guess it was a good thing that "Brian" looked older than Brian Austin Green did when '90210' first started. The actor who played Ian is very good...although to me he could only pass as Ian because of how his hair was made to resemble Ian's.

Mag, Darling, you're being a bore.

reply

Yep, I agree on all points!

Kelly and Brenda's dresses for the dance were a distinct black with the white layered bows in front. Really, they couldn't have made one?!!!

reply

Having watched the series from beginning to end more times than I can count, the inconsistencies were so glaring that I eventually resigned to the idea they were, for whatever reason, intentional. Even the dialogue wasn't lining up.

For its flaws, though, I actually found myself enjoying this movie. Certainly more so than the Saved by the Bell yawnfest.

reply

I agree, I practically watch the show on a loop, so the things they messed up were glaringly obvious. The dialogue irritated me, but I think that was a copyright/plagiarism issue, since this was "unauthorized" and they didn't have the original writers permission.

reply

Thank you Ash-lee! Many of the "errors" really weren't. Copyrights are a big deal when making a movie like this.

reply

Since these movies are unauthorized, they're not allowedto replicate everything due to legal issues.

reply

In the end, it's minor flaws....and I was overall laughing along. Basically having a good time. The saved by the bell movie blew chunks!!
