Please cast some Americans to play the Americans

I'm an American. One of the first sounds I heard at the start of episode one was a non-American trying to 'do' a Southern U.S. accent as the radio announcer in Maya's car. It jumped right off the screen at me, absolutely grating. I had flashbacks of the death penalty episode of Kavanagh, QC which was set in Florida. It was chock full of British actors using eye-rollingly over-the-top Southern accents that Floridians don't even use.

I'll give Undercover credit for not having the Americans say, "God Dayum!" in every paragraph. But other than that, the stereotypical portrayal of backwards, ignorant Southerners was painful. There are plenty of Northern and Western states with the death penalty. Moffat could have made a more serious statement about the cruelty of the death penalty if he had used one of those settings instead. The giant fans in the courtroom reminded me more of the Scopes Monkey Trial than a modern building in 2016 which would be cold from the abundant air conditioning. One of the 'American' judges said the term "Thursday week." There is no such turn of phrase in U.S. speech.

I recall watching episodes of Lovejoy and Wire In the Blood which were also filmed in the Southern U.S (and were also terrible, hee hee!) But at least they made the attempt to cast some local people so that the accents were appropriate.

Actually I remember thinking about that scene was that it did not look like Louisiana
Is it really semi arid in parts?

I suspect it was filmed in South Africa for some reason (i Know filming location says Louisiana, but still)

Interesting! I thought that scene was filmed in England.

You're right, Louisiana should generally be moist and swampy .
