will it cast Niccolo Machiavelli? :)

I certainly hope so :) and Savonarolla and da Vinci :) all the artists of that time.

reply

Lol how ?

Show starts with death of Giovanni de Medici, who die in 1429, Niccolò Machiavelli was born in 1469, Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1452 and Hieronim Savonarola was born in same year as Leonardo.

But if show will get few more seasons, then maybe ;)

reply

Plus, Tupac is currently unavailable so who would they even cast?

reply

aouch....that was "bad".....

😁

see you in the next life

reply

I know but it popped into my head and I just had to share it with all of you.

Worth a chuckle though, right?

A second season has been approved (and I am guessing with the monster ratings it received in Italy for the first two episodes, there might be a third) but the next season will focus on Cosimo's grandson, Lorenzo.

It's doubtful that Richard Madden will return (or any of the current cast). We might get an old lady Contessina, who did live with her son Piero after Cosimo's death and Lorenzo named a child after her.

The only reason anyone outside of Italy knows of the Medicis - their tangential relationship with one of the most legendary political philosophers of all-time. Perhaps this show was made with Italians in mind, otherwise, it seems like a missed opportunity, as a docudrama on Machiavelli would have gotten much more traction than one on the Medicis.

The only reason anyone outside of Italy knows of the Medicis

is due to art history.

Some have such a low esteem they create reasons to hate everyone else.

reply

Is due to art history

Willing to bet that it's 'Assassin's Creed' for even more people.

reply

I'll take that bet.

Millions of people from all over the world visit the museums and galleries in Florence every year and have done so for five centuries. Most of the credit is given to the Medici for their collection and patronage. Uffizi is synonymous with Medici.

Assassin's Creed was invented when? And sold how many copies?

I win!

The only reason anyone outside of Italy knows of the Medicis? Is if they paid attention in history class. They were one of, if not THE most influential and famous families in their area and era, renowned not just for their patronage of the arts, or that Michiavelli dedicated a book to one of their most celebrated sons, but they are at the heart of the birth of modern Europe in the high rennaisance. Politics, the military, philosophy, economy, diplomacy, religion, and yes the arts, but also fashion, sexuality, and personal expression have all been greatly affected by that family, way way way beyond the borders of Northern Italy between 1450 and 1600. In fact the actions of Catherina De Medici as Queen and Queen Mother of France have led in some important aspects directly to historically significant events as the founding of the east India trading companies, the Dutch Revolt, the early Colonisation of Latin America and the spread of the Protestant Reformation. Sure, some people know their name from artclass, others from a videogame, maybe even from TV shows like The Borgias, Da Vinci's Demons or Reign, but they are as important as the Tudors, Habsburgers and Trastamaras. Believing that we only know them because of a book on politocology or a computergame is like saying people only know the Houses of York and Lancaster because Shakespeare wrote some plays and George RR Martin based Game of Thrones partially on their battles for the english monarchy.

This is exactly why i'm watching! I just started the series, and was excited to find it on netflix. I was a European history major, so that's where my interest lies. It's great so far! I'm glad to see Madden again in a series. I also enjoyed the Tudors.

Hot guys + dark subject matter + plenty of violence = watchable television.

If the show does not stay focused on the early 15th Century, jumping forward over the course of its run, then I see no reason why they can't include some of those figures--and would probably be the best way to structure a historical show like this.

reply

History . . .

You're bad at it.

reply

I know Machiavelli was ~ 1500 that's why I asked if it will cast him, meaning ( will the movie extend the period of Giovanni de Medici towards the 1500-ish or it will focus on the events from his lifetime ).

Understanding, you're bad at it!

Intelligence means " to read between the lines " intelligere " to comprehend, to understand...

He does show up much later in the series, but the character doesn't seem particularly plausible. But then, Machiavelli tends to get a undeserved bad rap in general.
