Ruins Sicario?

I enjoyed the first Sicario movie and haven't yet seen this sequel, but I wonder whether to bother and I wonder whether or not this sequel will ruin Sicario, the original movie...

Will it turn this into an episodic action series? A melodrama about Alejandro and/or Matt? Will it just add minutia and twists and references between it the original and future episodes, the kind of easter egg detail that fans like to dork on, but that add no meaning and simply clutter the elegant tightness of the original?

So, do you think this movie runs the risk of ruining the original? Have you seen it? Is it any good? How many more sequels/episodes in this series? Maybe a prequel series that covers Emily Blunt's characters SWAT days and missions... meh...

Or is this a Godfather II situation?

Nah, its decent enough and doesn’t ruin the first movie at all, it’s not as memorable as the first movie though but Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin are as good as they usually are, Emily Blunt isn’t missed as her character isn’t needed for this story.

Definitely not a Godfather Part II, but maybe a Rocky II!

Agreed. I was surprised to see a sequel announced and with a different director attached I had low expectations, but it was a worthy follow up. I also read that Emily Blunt was willing to come back but they didn't see how it would make sense, and I respect them for that decision. I feel like in most cases they'd choose star power over the integrity of the story.

I'm very glad Blunt did not come back. I like her a lot, but I thought in the first movie her character was whiny, annoying and not all that essential.
