A better ending would have helped this one immeasurably

While it's refreshing to see black people actually survive a horror movie I can't help but feel the ending is a little too pat, especially considering what came before. I don't need the good guys in this case to die or anything but something with a little more bite might have given "Get Out" the classic status it so earnestly aspired to.

Agreed.

The better ending is the one in jail, as included in the DVD. It fits the film really well but I also wanted Chris to make it out alive

reply

What I expected was that Chris was going to be blamed for the whole damn mess and be incarcerated for life.

yah for sure the more 'realistic' dark ending since the house burned all the evidence, etc

“I’m TS - motherfuckin’ - A. We handle shit.” Damn I love that!

I’m personally content with the happier ending. Though I understand why the alternative endings work better for some, I wouldn’t haven’t been a tiny bit surprised if we got these ominous endings. Chris gets blamed for everything that happened and gets locked up? Or Rod finds Chris and he denies anything is wrong? (i.e. he has been taking over). I, for one, was relieved to see Chris “Get Out”.

I admit that those endings could have left a greater impact. However, to my mind, Chris was given the ending he deserved. As far as I see it, it was more than just a black individual surviving a horror film.

So yes, words can’t describe how satisfying it was to see the guy get back at those lunatics and escape. And again, TS - motherfuckin’ - A!

The ending was perfect. After all the horrifying shit Christ went thru, it was so fucking nice to finally see him get a break and escape alive. When the cop car was revealed to be the TSA car instead, the entire audience roared in applause.

reply

The fact that it was a little too perfect is what bothers me.

I agree, I thought the ending was great (normal ending, didn't see the alternative yet)
