Overrated.

Gee, I find anything that has a bit of quality now days is immediately hailed as a great movie. The quality and quantity is that low.

This wasn't a bad movie, nor a great movie, but just a decent movie with some interesting social commentary and a couple of chuckles along the way.

Also another concern I have, this movie is a direct attack on white people with plenty of casual racism against whites in it and it's lauded? I hope this doesn't become acceptable, because racism is about equality, not having passive aggressive stabs at one another.

Are you trolling?

reply

I agree, but with so many sequels and unoriginal remakes this movie seems like a breath of fresh air.

reply

To the OP:
Uh,what? You don't even know what the word "racism" means apparently. Racism is NOT about equality. Go look it up,please. Things like inequality and discrimination come from racism. Honestly, do some research on something before you come here and blab about it. And this film points up racism from some white people, not all white people. Pointing out racism isn't racist, let's get that straight. "Direct attack on white people"---yeah, right, whatever. Stop lying and GTFOOH with that bull****!

And, yeah, GET OUT is a good film that clearly struck a chord with the public (especially black moviegoers, who could relate to it more.)

reply

Black people are more racist than white people now.

Agreed, Its a good movie but some of the praise it gets is bordering on ridiculous.

reply

well I am glad I've watched it. Most drama movies are too boring for me, and some darker movies aren't just moving. I'm glad that this movie is actualy a breath of fresh air.

reply

Ridiculous why? just because you don't praise it as much as someone else doesn't make their opinion ridiculous. As moviegoers, we all take something away from each movie we see regardless of where we see it, and to those people praising it like that, it was more powerful and amazing, etc to them.

No movie will ever get every single person out there' support but when it comes down to it this one succeeded because it touched more than it turned away. So what that being said? yeah. Nothing ridiculous here other than someone being opinionated over nothing.

reply

I meant ridiculous because i remember some calling it one of the best Horror movies of all time and to me that does not make any sense, now I liked the movie but think its nothing great. And of course all our comments are personal opinions i have never thought otherwise.

Come on man, I agreed with everything you said up until that point. Yeah, it's overrated but there's movies of black people from some ghetto that befriend a white guy and then kick his ass or something and vice versa. Even though it happens, you never see a black dude's perspective in a horrible situation presented in the movie. So finally another view of the coin and you want to complain about it and make it an issue. Just a movie bro.

reply

i'd like for you to explain to me how this movie is a direct attack on white people.....ridiculous

reply

I don't think this is racist against white people, but it was a desesperate attempt to bring up racism (against black people) and it didn't really make any sense. They never explain very well why did they chose only black people.

That said, stop feeling so offended when a movie protraits some racist white person or group. They are never saying "all white people are this way". They are just showing a specific group of racist white people.

reply

"They are never saying 'all white people are this way'".

This is a straw man. The above is not what people are offended by when movies like this are made. No one believes ALL white people or ALL black people act a certain way. Everyone knows there are plenty of exceptions to stereotypes, but, go figure, ordinary white people don't like seeing movies that add ammunition to the stereotype of whites being racist.

As a thought experiment, just imagine if the shoe was on the other foot. If someone made a movie showing only stereotypes of black people as violent thugs, do you think they could fall back on the "I never said ALL black people are this way" defense?

reply

A lot of black people are violent criminals.

Ever heard of the term super predators?

reply

Let me correct that for you:
"A lot of marginalized poor people become violent criminals"
Race has nothing to do with it.

reply

Culture has.

Middle class black people are more likely to become criminals than poor class white non-hispanic people. Economics matters, but culture matters more.

And by the way, race matters too. For example, black people have on average lower intelligence and higher level of testosterone than white ones. Both things are likely to lead to a higher level of criminality.

reply

There is no such thing as "black culture"

"black people have on average lower intelligence and higher level of testosterone that white ones"

Totally false claim, usually proclaimed by racists.

Both are facts.

With 'black culture', in the context of US, I'm talking about the ruleset and usual core values in the black community, that are different from the ones in white community. And there's doubt it exists.

Arguing with the resident white supremacists over tired old white supremacist talking points is an exercise in futility.

I’d check for typos before questioning anyone’s intelligence myself.

Race is a stereotype for generalising instead of talking about individual cases.

reply

Completely.
