I don't get why the white family focused solely on blacks. It seems like they wanted the most genetically superior qualities, but those qualities don't necessarily exclusively reside with blacks. In fact, all of the blacks they abducted seemed very normal (not super tall or strong). Why not seek out genetic rarities from every race?

Well the dude that was hosting grandpa looked quite big and he could run. The main character was chosen because of his eyes (talent for taking photos) and you couldn't really judge the other people from the pictures. Also when looking for new subjects she was looking at NCAA basketball playes which often have a unique physique, so I cannot say I agree.
shareGood point about the eyes, I forgot about that scene with the blind photographer. But it's not like his eyes were anything special. He looked to be an amateur photographer at best. The blind guy would be happy with anyone who had eyes. He didn't have to be black.
How do you explain the housekeeper lady?
Well he kind of said that to main character that he didn't care about race (before we knew exactly what he was talking about) but he did mention that he had a gift (with his eyes) that he himself did not possess.
We do not know what grandma was looking for so it is hard to know why the housekeeper lady was chosen. But I do feel that troughout the movie it is implied that the white folks fell superiour to blacks in all other aspects than the physical realm... And therefore they wish to have this as well and therefore they chose black people as their vessels.
The whites in the movie were racists who were stereotyping blacks as being physically superior. BTW, that stereotype about black people does exist.

I don't know if that factored into their decision, but at the very least they had an obsessive fetish for black people('s bodies), stemming from the Jesse Owens thing.
I also think it's an allegory to American slavery (eg the auction block). It's a disturbing reminder for me of how some of my own ancestors behaved - the events in this movie are no more horrifying than the reality of slavery. That is what I find most chilling of all.

This is literally a forced and unnatural way to bring up racism in a pseudo-horror movie. And it does not make sense. That's why the blind guy said "i don't care about the colour of your skin" when Chris was sat in front of the TV. They couldn't explain.
