Was there anything you thought would happen but did not happen

I was thinking that someone would say that rose should get an Oscar after the reveal of her true colors and for some reason a thought rose was going to kiss Chris after he got knocked out because of whatever twisted affected she might have for her toys if people would call Chris just a toy to her and if he was her favorite I wonder why that was.I also thought for some reason that rose would end up pregnant with Chris's baby

I thought the townspeople were cultists who gave ritual sacrifices

reply

I thought it would show some sex slaves.

reply

i want to add that i thought someone in rose's family was responsible for chris's parents before even watching this movie

reply

Thought Chris would get pinned for the murders of the entire family...especially after he was the last to touch the gun right around the trigger. Thought that would have been an awesome ending.

When Chris let go of Rose's neck I was ready to see the mom stumbling out and clanking a different cup.

The boards on this site have covered almost all the alternate endings I could think of. Maybe I was expecting too much because I really thoughts they would show what happened to Chris on his return after the at the end credits.

I just thought the black grandpa and black grandma would be more prominent after Chris was shown the video.

I still can't believe no one thought of putting a camera in Chris's 'holding room'. When I saw the blind guy giving replies during the video message, I thought it was a Skype/WebEx type session. Then when I saw him looking at the cotton, I figured there is no way this guy can pull off cotton and put it in his ears while his hands and legs are tied to the chair while being monitored by a camera.

Then I realized even if by bending down he is able to put the cotton in his ears, there is not chance he will be able to go unnoticed.

Surely when the tv turns on the exact moment he wakes up, we can assume that someone was watching him. By this assumption, it was quite implausible that his plan would work. Not to mention the lack of security. They could have easily used 'Grandpa' as a henchman(instead of the lame-ass brother) while Chris was being 'prepared' for the surgery.

So many gun shots in a white neighborhood should have alerted the neighbors or someone around them(where was rich blind art dealer guy's security?).

Although I enjoyed the movie, I think it should have been even better. Especially with such a premise.

reply

I expected better too. It's like a B horror flick.

Remember, early on the father said the closest neighbor was on the other side of the lake. They were in a rural area.

reply

Point taken.. But that still doesn't explain the lack of security.. In fact a rural location should have a better security.. Especially when rich white guys are involved...

reply

There was an electronic security system at the front door. You can see the panel on the wall inside the house by the front door. Although they didn't seem to use it since Chris got out the front door.

The blind guy's security probably knew what was happening since that security guy was at the bingo auction. So he wouldn't have tried to help Chris, in fact would've tried to stop Chris.

But yeah, considering what they were up to (kidnapping and murder), the family would've had a crack security team. But a security that was in on it. Perhaps old mercenaries that had been "transplanted" into younger bodies.

reply

Agree. I guess i should have been clearer with my point. By security I meant thugs/goons/bad guys to fuck anyone up. The ending (since that cotton in the ears scene) felt like a lazy bollywood movie (Indian version of popcorn movie).

Everything just fell predictably and conveniently for the protagonist. A point was made in other boards that they had to make sure that the ending would be more positive to appeal to the African-American viewers. That may just be what pulled this movie back a bit.

A recent Indian movie had a similar climax(spoiler ahead for Hritik Roshan's Kaabil) where the super-rich politician guy goes to kill his brother's murderer with just one of his goons to support him. Doesn't make any sense in the real world but appeals to sympathetic audiences.

After all the hype, I just expected better from everyone involved in this movie.

reply

Ok. Now I gotcha. On the point of the lack of personal security/bodyguards, I agree.

When I saw the TSA car, I expected not only the friend but also some of the friend's fellow TSA agents. The friend goes the the airport to get the TSA car to rescue Chris and he doesn't ask any of his fellow agents to go with him?? it would have been a riot to have a bunch of TSA agents bursting into the house yelling "TSA! You're under arrest!".

& I expected more background on how the family got into this. Like when the grandfather was in Nazi Germany for the Olympics, he met some Nazis and/or went to couple meetings. & that the grandfather to thinking that if he only had his brain with a Negro (to use what was probably Grandpa's 1940s language) body, he would have won Olympic gold.

Then how he choose a woman to be the mother of his kids and to raise them to be those nut cases. Then the father finding a woman to not only raise the kids in this cult, but to also be the psychiatrist that does the hypnotizing. While the son was truly a sociopath, Rose felt more brainwashed than sociopathic.

But getting into those issues, would require a whole 'nuther movie. Prequel!

reply

I was convinced Chris wouldn't survive his ordeal.
Or his friend when he showed up.
I was relieved they made it.

reply

I thought it was going to a completely different route and be a racist thing, with the the white dominance race in to place. I thought that when Rose's grand father was defeat by a black athlet they kind wanted a revenge try to get black people back in to slavery by brainwashing/hypnotised/lobotomies them. I didn't thought for a minute about brain transplant scenario, who would have thought that Georgina was the grandmother... I guess that would have been too much controversy for such a heavy subject.
