Why do they change the time period the events happened in?

I think it would be better if they kept the story in the same time period it actually happened! Like one of tonight's segments Mary Farmer killing Sarah Brennan, assuming her identity to get the deed to the house signed over to her.

It made no sense how this could have actually happened? Googled it and this did really take place but in the early 1900's which makes a little more sense! I couldn't believe anything like this could happen in recent times with all the red tape nowadays!

Yes, I noticed starting with last week's episode that at the beginning the year and place it happened will show at the bottom of the screen, but then it's like they do hardly anything to try to keep the reenactment true to the time it actually took place. I understand there probably isn't a huge budget for this show, but it's like they don't try at all. Like the ones that take place in 1900/1920 and everyone's wearing jeans, even the women...or they show a modern day car when it's not even necessary to show a vehicle. It's almost becoming more of a humorous show to watch than eerie because of how obvious it is that no care was taken to even attempt to keep the reinactment close to what the time period would've looked like. I find it very distracting.

Yeah.I'm seeing this program is more campy than scary! It's still entertaining though! But still the same time period in a lot of them would make it better! In some it doesn't really matter because of the story line. But as I said the Mary Farmer case made no sense taking place in modern times! Hard to believe it could have really happened in the old days, but things were taken more at face value than!

I came here wondering if anyone else noticed the time period discrepancies. They will state that an incident took place in the early 1900's, yet there are modern cars, appliances, clothes, etc. I figured they are more interested in recreating the story and not necessarily the time period.

Lmfao.. I came here for the same reason. "this case occurred in 1908"...and the dude is driving Ford escort

I came here looking for the same thing - I watched the episode featuring Wilderness Heights where Linda Hazard had her "starvation cure." I'm quite familiar with this case and was shocked at how much they omitted and then flat out changed the time period.... someone who didn't know the story would probably wonder how someone could get away with this, not knowing it happened in the early 1900's.

I imagine this show doesn't have the biggest budget, it was probably more cost effective to make stuff a little updated. They show pics at the end, you can usually tell time frame.

I don't care, it's a fun and interesting show.

I had just watched "No Rest For the Wary," and was wondering, first, why was a story that took place in Russia have people who didn't even try to have accents and then why did people playing characters from 100 years ago look more like they were from 40 years ago (the elderly African-American man with the 1970's sideburns) and then pretty modern, including the dialogue.
