Unabashed Nudity

I just can't help but be amazed at how easy the nudity seems to come to the actors in this show. Not saying it's a bad or a good thing, just strikingly different from my own modest culture :)
The scene where Thor is pulling on his junk while talking to Logi seems like it should come across as awkward (or rather, it would be awkward, in my culture), but it doesn't come across that way thankfully, and just seems like people are way more comfortable with their bodies than I am - which is awesome!

I just watched that episode this evening. At first I was taken aback! But I suppose I'm not used to seeing that in my culture. I did admire how everyone seems so comfortable in their own skin.

The scene was very real. I congratulate the cast for keeping it that way.

There's more hot tub culture in scandinavia, so perhaps the ease of nudity in the culture stems from this?

Been going on like that on tv in Europe and places like Iceland for decades, including Britain since the '60s.

It's only in the US that it surprises people or even rates a comment at all, due to the stringent censoring the US has always had.

Now that European productions are making it into mainstream US places, people are just now seeing how it's always been there. I saw stuff like this in Europe in the '60s.

Sure I'll be considered anachronistic but does anyone ever consider that unabashed nudity is not a good thing? How about a little mystery?

reply

That's a very interesting idea -- with the prevalence of saunas, that could very well mean people are accustomed to much more non-sexual nudity with each other, which would carry over into a show.
