I agree, though I'm not surprised after the last two Godzilla movies and Kong: Skull Island.

They need to try to bring these franchises back to a sense of realism. As I mentioned in another thread, for all its faults, the '98 Godzilla movie at least gave a sense of Godzilla moving around the REAL New York.

The last time I saw a "realistic" giant monster movie was Cloverfield. And the one before that was Gojira (for it's time). What these movies had was a sense of the human element--they were horror films. Giant monster movies that are not horror films are the general run of the genre, I like them in their own way, but I don't care much if they look stunningly real.

Cloverfield for sure.

I just think that with each new layer of CGI they pile on, the films become more like watching a cartoon and they become less interesting.

I enjoyed the 2014 Godzilla. In fact, I think that film is underrated. I appreciated the understated Jaws-style approach to the monster. But I enjoyed Kong: Skull Island less, and the second Godzilla film even less than Kong.

I'm hoping this one will at least be a fun popcorn movie. We'll see.

I'm a fan of the old Godzilla films and enjoy watching the big guy batting rocks back and forth with Ebirah... So I am in no position to complain about poorly conceived CGI. My taste is low and I'll watch anything they make, I just might only watch it once.
