Did Rask have to kill Maddie?

I'm not sure why it was such a problem she heared less then 3 seconds of conversation but anyways, yeah it's bad she was a witness to his crime (can she prove it though) however bad that is, surely being put on trial for her murder is worse? he could have kept her hostage some place until he left the country....

The way they filmed the murder scene was a cop out too, by which I mean, we the audience were suppose to, I can only image on some level, feel bad for his predicament when in actuality he was just working his way up to murder all along. I prefer a gritty realistic villain as opposed to stereotypical glamorization of male violence.
