Why I hate the ending


It shits all over the character development. Mildred and Dixon were supposed to be reformed, but then they contemplate murder. And the guy may not even be a rapist, it's possible he was just trying to impress his friend.

The final lines belie the real results of that scene:

MILDRED: You sure about this?
DIXON: About killing this guy? Not really. You?
MILDRED Not really. I guess we can decide along the way.

The performances there say, to me anyway, that Mildred and Dixon are not going to kill that guy. They're going to choose to let go of the anger (anger begets anger).

Why do you think they were supposed to be reformed. Maybe the point was they went all Death Wish in the world and started taking out trash.
