Among five predicted finalists for Best Picture at Golden Globes

They will take place on Jan 7, and are often an Oscar Predictor.

It didn't feel like a Best Picture to me.

reply

It does to me.

There was no "Best Picture" movie nominated that year.

Wow! A blast from the past!

😦

But it won the Golden Globe, which is a good sign for the Oscars.

reply

Ya I was surprised. I really enjoyed the acting, the story just didn't seem enough for Best Picture.

reply

So which movie would you choose to win the Oscar?

I thought Dunkirk was the best made movie of the year. But of course with the climate in Hollywood right now, it probably doesn't represent everyone so Billboards might just win there too.

reply

Dunkirk was good, but not good enough to be best picture. Lots of good movies this year, but I don't have a favorite yet. Still waiting to see I, Tonya, Call Me By Your Name and Phantom Thread.

reply

I, Tonya was a 5/10 for me. Basically 2 hours of Tonya getting abused by her Mom and her husband.

I thought Billboards lacked any sort of payoff. I thought the 3 main actors all deserve nominations though, so that might be enough.

reply

I don't think there needed to be a payoff with Three Billboards. Not sure if it would have been satisfying if there was one. It was more about the journey and less about the destination.

reply

I agree. I still think it should win.

I am leaning toward Three Billboards winning, but there are still a few possible nominations that I want to see. I, Tonya, Call Me By Your Name and Phantom Thread all could be nominated and I haven't seen them yet.

reply

I am too. All three are rated highly on IMDB. We shall see what happens.
