High Hopes (oh, and first!)

Both "In Bruges" and "Seven Psychopaths" were great movies, although there is no cast listed yet I have high hopes for this film. So far Martin is 2/2 for me.

Yep, same here! In Bruges is particularly brilliant in my opinion, but Seven Psychopaths is very enjoyable aswell. High hopes indeed!

reply

2/2 is right! I can't wait!

I loved In Bruges, but was somewhat disappointed with Seven Psychopaths. I think I hyped it up too much.

I loved both of his previous films.
He is also an absolutely outstanding playwright. I've read The Pillowman, The Cripple of Inishmaan, and The Lieutenant of Inishmore, and they are all outstanding/disturbing dark comedies.

In Bruges is fantastic.

Seven Psychopaths could have been a masterpiece if he followed through and changed the formula halvway through, when they where going out in the desert and they hinted about letting the later half of the fictional movie just be the psychopaths talking it out around a campfire, and the hints about giving the women something to do and say in the movie. But instead it followed the ordinary path with shootout and breasts. To bad.

But hopefully it will get better this time =)

I am so excited for this! I thought Martin was sticking to doing plays for the next few years. In Bruges is one of my favorites and Seven Psychopaths just blows my mind how unknown it is. It needs to be on Netflix for people to discover it.

Big gulps huh? Well, cya later

I liked but his movies without falling in love with them(In Bruges is my fave amongst them) BUT I totally LOVE him as a playwriter.. I've seen everything he has written at the theatre.

I have reasonably high expectations for the movie AND I think if it mets the expetations, it might even lead to some Oscar nominations... Francis McDormand is great (I really like her), Woody Harrelson is well loved and Sam Rockwell is very good as well and it would be the biggest chance for Peter Dinklage also to ever get a nomination(I've been told he's very good in The Station Agent, which earned him some awards, but the movie in itself wasn't Oscar material)and he would be the first little man in history to ever achieve that result, at least that I know of ... they're all great but it all depends on how big and powerful the roles cut for them will be.

Is there any info on Peter Dinklage's character? I'm sure he must get an Oscar nod at some point anyway.

Frances McDormand could very well get a nomination too. She was absolutely fantastic in Olive Kitteridge recently.

4 years later and he's working on a new film. How lucky we are, can't wait!

In Bruges was a masterpiece. The best movie of all time, in my opinion. Certainly my favourite.

Seven Psychopaths was ok.

I'm disappointed Sam Rockwell is cast in this - just can't stand him, think he's awful. Hopefully he plays a detestable character, cos I can at least work with that.

You might be getting your wish, judging by the plot summary:

A vigilante mother takes matters into her own hands as she searches for her daughter's murderer. Fueled by fury, Mildred Hayes erects three provocative highway signs to catch the eye of the town's revered Chief of Police Bill Willoughby, who has made few inroads finding a culprit. Hoping the incendiary messages spur Willoughby's unprincipled protégé Officer Dixon into action, Mildred ignites a firestorm in the community as the police force evades charges of racism and corruption.

Rockwell is listed as "Offier Dixon" in the cast.

Sam Rockwell is an underrated genius how can you not like Sam?

Seriously? Rockwell is one of the more interesting, and flat-out one of the most fun actors to watch on screen today, no matter what he does. He usually shines as some weird character in a completely offbeat situation----his presence in a film usually means that it might be worth watching. Plus he's usually funny as hell,too---when allowed to be.

reply

Sam Rockwell was so vibrantly charming in "The Way Way Back".

reply

Yeah, he was----like I said he usually makes anything he's in worth watching. If you're seen him in the movie MOON, where he plays a double role, and pretty much carries the entire film with his unconventional self----basically if an actor can pull off a double role and be convincing as hell at both (like Tom Hardy in LEGEND, for example) they're a damn good actor or actress, period. That's genius acting right there.
