I Am a Supporter of the Military, But. . . .

My husband was in the Air Force for 26 years between his active duty and his reserve and Air National Guard duty. I strongly support the military, and the six years of active duty were among the best of our lives. In fairness, he was never deployed, so our situation was ideal.

That being said, I feel very strongly that, when Phoebe's father was killed in action, her mother should have resigned her commission and left the service to go home to be with her daughter. Not only was she mourning her father's death, but she was being raised by a grandfather who, although it was obvious he loved her dearly, was ill, needing regular dialysis. There appeared to be no grandmother and no female relative to guide her through her transition into womanhood (getting her period, etc). I believe her mother would have been invaluable to her in so many ways. This is not to diminish the care her grandfather gave her, but there are some times a child just needs his or her mother. I believe her duty to her child came before her duty to the military. This really made me both angry and sad.

Boo Hoo! Let me wipe away the tears with my PLASTIC hand!--Lindsey McDonald (Angel)
