Why didn't she... (SPOILERS)

Bash his head in with the crossbow as soon as the boyfriend has him in a headlock? Never mind trying to load the bow, if she whacked him she could have knocked him out cold.

Take both knives when she stabbed him in the bathtub? Deprive him of both weapons. She could have also just then stabbed him again when he was reeling from the leg wound.

Gather all the knives from the kitchen and the corkscrew and anything else pointy and just fling them like darts at the killer when he came into the house?

Bash his head in with the hammer when she had his arms jammed in the window? She got a good arm hit in, but could have done more.

I know there wouldn't have been a movie if she'd done this, but seriously. There were moments here when she could have gotten the upper hand so easily.

Because she was too scared to. The movie made that pretty clear.

What are words for when no one listens anymore

For the crossbow thing, do not forget that at this point she was already wounded. She could not run very efficiently and there would have been a risk of being thrown to the ground and killed if John had failed to hold him long enough for her to deliver the blow. Also there would have been a chance of hurting John too.

For the knife-throwing advice, I don't think it would have been wise. Kitchen knives aren't really heavy and they're not going to sink into someone's flesh even if you throw them with all your might. There is also a chance of missing : andeven if you do touch them with the knives, most would probably just scratch the skin's surface at best.... And now your killer has a quantity of weapons lying around him and you find yourself empty handed.

Agreed--as I said in another thread, I think that she has the (probably correct) intuition that if he manages to get his hands on her, he will kill her. Thus her "flight" instincts are much stronger than her "fight" instincts. She only wounds him as much as she needs to get away in that moment.

Most self-defense things that I've read (giving tips to men and women) seem to advocate this approach. You don't aim to finish off your attacker--only to do as much as you need to do so that you can flee.

And also, when you're looking as an outsider, you will often see options that someone who's trapped in the situation wont... Everyone knows that.

This too I found annoying. Every chance she had to even hold a weapon she disposed of it. Completed stupid.
