I really do not understand how this got the green light

Not because of the concept. But that the script is very much stuck in the 1960s.

In a show which is supposedly informing about history you would have thought they would have fact checked. Horrible Histories is hilarious but flags up where they are making things up. The show writers for this have not even bothered to google the basics.

You might not think that is important - but kids believe what they hear on the telly. Unless they know the topic well (my 8 year old was correcting the George Stephenson episode).

Jokes are not funny if you need to explain them. Gandhi turns up in an episode and continually hits one of the characters. But kids don't know why that might be "amusing". They just see a bald brown guy in his undies hitting an idiot.

Which leads into the racism. I am glad the topics of the show are not entirely focussed on the US, but that has instead led to some serious racial stereotyping and some Racism. I suspect they have not appreciated that people outside the US might not get the joke. Though the representation of African Americans and Native Americans would raise eyebrows.

And then there is the sexism. Female characters are shallow and the cause of romantic interest for either Peabody or Sherman (how old is that boy supposed to be?). One episode synopsise include "Mr. Peabody and Sherman help Cleopatra embrace her more 'feminine' side." Annie Oakley's best skill is gossiping. Catherine The Great is a blonde bombshell.

Dreamworks are better than this.

I totally agree. I'll never have my niece watch it again!
This show is crazy. Bad crazy. It gives me anxiety, I almost felt I was having an epileptic seizure watching it. Writers must be ADHD teenagers under LSD. Plot doesn't stay focused on the same subject for more than 10 seconds.
All but educational.
