It's a win win for everyone involved.

A bunch of old has-beens who aren't doing too much, but who are cultural icons, get to travel for free.

NBC gets to make a show for next to nothing that got good ratings. IMDB says that the budget was only $100,000... less than just one episode of a scripted series.

The viewer gets to watch their misadventures and laugh.

Shatner is easily the oldest of the group, but honestly seems to have more energy than any of them. Heck, I'm in my mid 30s and I think he'd run me ragged. Maybe not QUITE, but he is one of the spriest 85 year olds I've seen.

The one thing I see as a challenge here though is, given their age, this isn't going to be national geographic or even an idiot abroad, they have to go somewhere that is developed enough that they don't have to go trekking for miles (pardon the pun) but is sufficiently culturally different so as to prove interesting. As such, I'd say, pick up where they left off... go from Asia on to India, then on to Russia, into some of the safer parts of the middle east, and end up in someplace like Morocco.
