Semi-OT; Ruth Negga's Academy Award nomination

I have to wonder how this is going to effect her role on the show if she wins.

Hell, even the best actress nomination may mean that she's going to get a lot more scripts sent her way and given the choice of the larger pay days that shooting a movie brings come her way, I can see her choosing the big screen over the small screen.

Tulip is central to the story, you have to wonder what they're going to do if Ruth decides to leave the show.

I had already read rumors she has quit season 2.

reply

Really? From what I've read of the Preacher comic, Tulip and Cassidy both disappear for a significant stretch.

But again, she is an essential part of the story. You have to wonder if they're just going to recast her with someone who looks like Ruth or just restart the series entirely.

reply

Oh God, I really hope she doesn't quit this show! Seeing her on screen in this is the best part of every week there's an episode.

Assuming she has a (long-term) contract, can these always be bought off (out?) for the right price? I don't think any actor would purposefully turn in poor performances in an effort to be fired.

I read an article that said that S2 of Preacher may be delayed because of Ruth's commitments to promoting Loving leading up to the Oscars.

I hope they reach some kind of compromise but I have to admit, part of me thinks that this doesn't bode well.

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed Ruth in everything I've seen her in and I'm ecstatic that she's received the nomination but, again, I'm a bit worried she's going to forgo TV for movies.

Which, being honest, I really wouldn't blame her if she did. Like I said; even the nomination is going to be a huge boost for her career. Regardless of what she ends up doing, I wish her nothing but the best.
