Was Sven a real person?
For those of you that read a book, I was curious if Sven was in the books and was he gay? I just ask because people were not considered to be that open about their sexuality then? Thanks.
he appears in the second book 'Birds, beasts, and relatives'. He was one of Larry's many bohemian friends who visited them on Corfu (Larry was already a fairly well known writer before they moved to Corfu, contrary to what the series shows). After Sven leaves, Mother tells Larry that she thought Sven was "such a manly man, quite one of the old school," to which Larry replies "you should have told him that, there's nothing homos like better than to be told they are virile and manly." Mother is quite shocked to discover that Sven was homosexual, she had no idea.
