Needs to improve.

Not very impressed with the first episode, Maigret looked permanently confused although Rowan Atkinson did a sterling job with the material. The plot construction was very sloppy with the major clue in the whole case, the button with the piece of cloth, being completely forgotten in the final scenes with the scientist burbling on about burning holes in the suspects suit. The right suit would have had a button and a large chunk of material missing, but that was completely ignored. I can give it no more than 4/10. Mind you once again it shows that an actor known for his comedy can do drama. Who could forget James ‘Likely Lads’ Bolam making such a success of Jack ‘When the Boat Comes In’ Ford?

reply

They knew they had the right suit. The question was: when did the suspect last have the suit?
He said, his suit had a cigarette burn in it so he gave it to a tramp, a week before the murder. But the scientist said the the burn marks were made less than 24 hours ago.

Did you relabel that alleged plot hole in the Goofs section? Whoever did should have elaborated why it's incorrect.

reply

I think the alleged plot hole should not be labeled as incorrect, but completely removed from the goofs section. It's just a case of a viewer not catching all the dialog. (I will see if I can get it deleted.)

This is the scene between the two inspectors.
Janvier: I found the suit on the tramp down on the embankment. The button is missing.
LaPointe: Has it got a burn on it?
Janvier: Just like Marcel says... I think the chief's got the wrong man.

reply

Thanks.
It's still odd that they only mentioned the button and not the fabric that was torn in a highly unlikely way to begin with, but I won't lose sleep over it.
