He hated her, hence I gather he was an awful husband.

So why did she kill another woman, to make it look like her husband was innocent?

Would she kill to keep a man who hates her, who has a Norman Bates complex, and is guilty of killing five women..?

The wife was beautiful and had her own money and work. No reason to keep psycho husband around, you know.

I also would have wished we would get some insight in why he hated his wife, why he killed, and why his wife loved him.

A couple of other suspects would also have been nice, since I love a whodunit.

I agree - although she had actually run out of money, remember it was revealed that they were behind in rent by 7 months? Not that that explains why she stayed with him though.

Another angle: since we know that Moncin's wife has the capability to kill, isn't it equally possible that SHE was the real killer all along, and that Moncin was actually covering for her, rather than the other way around?

It still leaves the question of why he said he hated her, but either way, that question remains unanswered, so... I contend that Maigret MIGHT just have arrested the wrong person for the first 5 murders...
