Article on Working on The Deuce: The Rialto Report consults for HBO

Key points:

The Deuce, a nickname for the infamous 42nd Street of that era, explores the rough-and-tumble world that existed there until the rise of HIV, the violence of the cocaine epidemic and the renewed real estate market all ended the bawdy turbulence. It will also deal with the darker side of midtown Manhattan, including the rise of HIV and the drug epidemic of the Eighties.

"Fortunately HBO liked the pilot – and greenlit the show for three seasons."

Hopefully, the above doesn't change anytime soon and it is indeed three wonderful seasons (i.e. fans/critics enjoy all three seasons).

Just in case anyone didn't know anchored by Franco and Gyllenhaal:

James Franco , who is also an executive producer and director of the show, stars in two roles – Vincent and Frankie Martino, twins based on real life brothers that were influential in Time Square, thanks in part to support from the mob.
Franco is an excellent director (plus actor) and only recently directed and starred in 11.22.63. episode 5 "The Truth" for Hulu.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, also one of the show’s producers, plays Eileen ‘Candy’ Merrell – an ambitious woman who starts the series as a prostitute but becomes interested in making adult films.

I really like the description of the characters. There is a journalist, a prostitute, a pimp, the people involved in the porn industry, police men, LGBT... Apparently (and hopefully) we'll get different POVs like in The Wire.
