Worst. Show. EVER.

While i do like the idea of netflix getting into the business of producing more sitcoms with the freedom to use uncensored language, the quality of this show is just terrible! First of all, Kutcher's rediculous attempt at an accent is beyond annoying. And i feel like the exchanges between actors is awkward with a sort of "live theater" feel to it. Def not in a good way, more like what you would expect when taking in a discounted preview show where the actors havent quite got their cues down yet. For instance, when kutcher's character refused to get coffee for his dad, the scene felt forced and inauthentic.

To other people's point about the laugh track, I think it only highlights the poor dialogue exchanges- you know the dialogue SHOULD be funny because of the canned laughter, but the lack of flow between actors just makes everything feel awkward.

I honestly do not understand why so many critics rated this show so highly...this show is something id expect from a lesser streaming service, not Netflix- wtf!?

It's largely unfunny but this show is oscar gold compared to Til Death.

Seriously, I couldn't get through the first 5 minutes. Is this a real show or just some horribly unfunny revival of Ashton's punked series? The dialogue just made me cringe and the laugh track made it worse.

just in about 3/4 of way through and want to go drown myself

so very very bad. I feel bad for Ashton. come on your better than this.

reply

Not sure it's the worst ever, but it definitely has problems. The comedy isn't very funny and the laugh tracks are pretty annoying. Timing seems forced and the jokes often feel recycled.

Wow, I just rocked up with my fishing pole to ask why you all hating? It's funny, enjoyable, relaxing and everything a show should be. You all need to get out of the house and get some sunlight. Or stop watching My Little Pony. Yeah, that's what it is! You expected a show about 'The Ranch' to be full of My Little Ponies! A-ha!

Well let me be the first to apologize for you having been born with no sense of humor, then secondly for the lack of Ponies. Thirdly for your ability to never relax and enjoy something that is chill and not full of big bang style humor, pokemon references or superheros. I feel bad for you already.

The hate in here, I can feel it running through ya'll veins, well, let me just say, if you feel the hate that badly please turn the show off, don't bother commenting on it, because last time someone was that full of hate, they murdered a bunch of kids before losing to the guy on high ground.

I like it a lot. Lots of out loud laughs.

I liked it, but the whole bad marriage thing gets tiresome after a while.

There has to be some cheap gimmicks going on to get a 7.5 rating. There's no possible way that many people like this show than that don't. It's absolutely terrible. I'm easily amused but this was so bad, couldn't even get through the 2nd episode.

I find it on par with most original Netflix offerings - i.e., bad. The only original things that I've seen so far on Netflix that I've kind of liked were The Fall, which succeeded because it had its original writing team in place already when they picked it up, and Aziz Ansari's show, which was good because he wrote it as well as starred in it. This is lame, unfunny, and the laugh track is utterly grating. Kutcher's 'accent' is a non-starter. Danny Masterson honestly looks like Zach Gallifinakis now. I love Sam Elliot, but not even for him would i watch this painful attempt at comedy/drama.

I agree with the OP. I wanted to like this show, I really did. I love Debra Winger and if she can't make something work with the caliber of actress she is, it's unworkable. I watched 3 episodes and have given up. The jokes feel forced, the laugh track is beyond distracting and I can already tell every premise of every show is going to be Colt pissing his dad off, they talk it out, and then it's all ok until the next episode where Colt does something else.
I actually like some of Neflix's original programming, so this show CAN get better. First step: get rid of the laugh track and that may make the jokes seem less forced.

You're so wrong here, couldnt be more, i watched now 20 episodes, and very few of them deals with Colt pissing of his dad, if any at all. I agree from the first few episodes it may look like that, but its not, there is always that grumpy/douche dad approach, but its more and more getting to some family feeling like show. Look past some minor flaws (laugh track f.e.) and u can enjoy the show for what it is, an entertaining little show. U need something different, go watch something else, there is plenty to choose from out there.
I watch very few comedy shows, but this is not only about that, it has heart and as u go on about watching this show, ull get to like the protagonists more and more as u dig deeper. So as u see it did get better, for me at least. But sadly the laugh track remained . I honestly too can do without it just fine. If somethings not funny it wont be with or without laugh track, forcing it somewhere where its not appropriate is wrong, but many times they nail it, i think. Give it a try, look past some flaws and try to not take everything too seriously and ull like the show.
