In Memoriam Snubs

48 names were listed in this year's In Memoriam segment, including two who were snubbed last year, actress Lizabeth Scott and documentarian Bruce Sinofsky.
However, as usual, many Oscar nominees were left off the list. I have counted sixteen. Three actors: Colette Marchand, Ron Moody and Frank Finlay. Eight screenwriters: Don Mankiewicz, Michael Blake, Seth Winston, Jean Gruault, D.M. Marshman Jr., Colin Welland, Steve Shagan and Stanley Mann. The other five are cinematographer Andrew Lesnie, songwriter Michael Masser, costume designer Julie Harris, director Robert Walker and producer Colin Low. As Oscar nominees, all of them deserve a mention in the Academy Awards "In Memoriam" segment.
Other interesting film professionals who were left off the list this year include directors Gene Saks and John Guillermin; actors James Best, Geoffrey Lewis, Grace Lee Whitney, Ellen Albertini Dow, Elizabeth Wilson, Mary Ellen Trainor, Anne Meara, George "Foghorn" Winslow, Dick Van Patten, Patrick Macnee, Roger Rees, Kevin Corcoran, Joan Leslie, Fred Thompson, Gabriele Ferzetti, Richard Libertini, Brian Bedford, Abe Vigoda and George Gaynes; "Our Gang" kids Jean Darling and Dickie Moore; Disney animator Blaine Gibson; and "Uggie" the dog from "The Artist".

Would have had to sing the entire "White Album" if all those were included.

Or they could just do away with the lame singing and just show the memoriam.

Wes Craven was the first one shown.

True true! A shame that so many were omitted.

Another one who didn't make the list, was 1970's homo-erotic film star, Shaft Strongwood, who appeared in the groundbreaking and visceral film "Sailors Board Me Now".

Your definition of "interesting film professionals" is more liberal than most. Of the number you mention, some are TV actors and actresses who had no film careers to speak of. Including dogs is just stupid.

I was surprised and many people too that they left Manoel de Oliveira, the legendary portuguese director, who died last year at 106, outside the "In Memoriam" section. He was the oldest living director in activity. I`m sure most european cinephiles didn`t understood the ommission.

That is not true they mentioned David Bowie

Jean-Luc Godard was also never Oscar nominated and he won an honorary Oscar a while ago. So, I think Manoel de Oliveira could perfectly have been honoured in the "In Memoriam" section. They included Theo Angelopoulos when he died and he was never Oscar nominated.
