In Memoriam Snubs
48 names were listed in this year's In Memoriam segment, including two who were snubbed last year, actress Lizabeth Scott and documentarian Bruce Sinofsky.
However, as usual, many Oscar nominees were left off the list. I have counted sixteen. Three actors: Colette Marchand, Ron Moody and Frank Finlay. Eight screenwriters: Don Mankiewicz, Michael Blake, Seth Winston, Jean Gruault, D.M. Marshman Jr., Colin Welland, Steve Shagan and Stanley Mann. The other five are cinematographer Andrew Lesnie, songwriter Michael Masser, costume designer Julie Harris, director Robert Walker and producer Colin Low. As Oscar nominees, all of them deserve a mention in the Academy Awards "In Memoriam" segment.
Other interesting film professionals who were left off the list this year include directors Gene Saks and John Guillermin; actors James Best, Geoffrey Lewis, Grace Lee Whitney, Ellen Albertini Dow, Elizabeth Wilson, Mary Ellen Trainor, Anne Meara, George "Foghorn" Winslow, Dick Van Patten, Patrick Macnee, Roger Rees, Kevin Corcoran, Joan Leslie, Fred Thompson, Gabriele Ferzetti, Richard Libertini, Brian Bedford, Abe Vigoda and George Gaynes; "Our Gang" kids Jean Darling and Dickie Moore; Disney animator Blaine Gibson; and "Uggie" the dog from "The Artist".
