I tried

I watched it for 15 minutes and I can't anymore. Why y'all think about it?

reply

I'm watching the 2nd showing as we "speak". So far, it's exactly like almost every "syfy original": a good idea, with potential, very poorly executed.

I hate the pilot episode of any series. It's usually the worst ep of the run. Takes some time for a show to find itself, and for the writers to get the feel of the characters. Writing is like that. Think of The Simpsons. Bart was supposed to be the focus, but Homer stole the show. Ditto with Family Guy. Stewie & Brian really overshadow Peter.

But this IS syfy. So, IF it gets better, it'll get cancelled.

reply

So true for a SyFy series. It will at max last 3 seasons, then they find something else to start up with.

reply

syfy has basically become synonymous with total dog *beep* seriously its like they go out side and hire the first 20 people they see to be actors and writers for their shows.

reply

I totally agree with you. The only exception IMO is the new Expanse series.

reply

which im pretty sure isnt actually a syfy original but a canadian production.

reply

LOL. It figures.

reply

Thats not true, i loved the first episode (pilot) of Fringe, same for Daredevil and Game of Thrones, and iZombie, and Bosch, and Fargo and more, but you get the point.

So no the pilot do NOT have to be bad, it's stupid of them to make a bad first episode.

But does aliens sound like the ones in the movie Mimic.

reply

That's correct. A pilot actually has to be a strong episode. Whether a show gets picked up or not is dependent on how strong the pilot is.

reply

Sorry popedon, I have to agree with AmigaW. The pilot, in essence is the strongest version of the opening of a story the show-runners can come up with, because the show does or does not get picked up - based on the merit of that pilot. And yes, while shows develop and either become great or fail due in great part with the writer's getting the full feel of the story and characters, the pilot, again, is generally meant to be a strong showing. This one was not.

reply

The actor's accents bother me. If they most/all are Australian, let them use their real voices. Oh, wait - Syfy has to dumb it down for a North American viewing audience. For all the hype, this show didn't WOW me. All I thought about was the clicking/chattering "Silence" figures from Doctor Who.

reply

A global release wouldn't do well with full Aussie accents. If you think that has anything to do with dumbing down, go learn another language and then delve into accents and local dialects. It will blow your mind.

I'm not American nor am I an English native speaker. Less local accents make it easier to understand, simple linguistic fact. It was one of the issues Torchwood had, due to actors sometimes going straight into British English with full blown Welsh accents that were really hard to understand in the original English language release.

Hell, go watch North and South (or any other more authentic production dealing with the American Civil War) and listen to the Southern characters when the actors are allowed to go full authentic. If you're not familiar with the dialect and accent, you will not understand a thing.

This is further fueled by English having a total lack of a standard version, like German, French or Japanese. English speaking actors cannot speak without accent, because no version of standard English exists. German, French, Japanese actors, they all learn to speak without accent.

reply

I just so happens that I do speak English plus 3 other foreign languages. Understanding dialectic differences can be trying at times according to my own experiences. Watching a show like Hunters, it's a distraction when an Australian actor seems to force an American voice. I guess they get tired after a long shooting day and occasionally slip into their natural Aussie sound.

reply

You are incorrect about there not being any standard versions of English. Standard American (US) is the Midwest accent; most Americans will not detect any "accent" and national newscasters, etc. use it. In the UK, actors and radio broadcasters were trained to use BBC English which was considered the standard. This is a complicated subject, of course, and cannot be discussed fully here.

reply

That clicking/chattering noise reminded me of the Predator. Took me right out of this series.

Same here.

I didn't even make it 5 minutes. That is some of the dumbest *beep* committed to electrons. Like Prometheus dumb. Even though you're the most junior member of the squad, you
- disobey orders
- leave your square mates with no cover
- fail to report your position
- charge off alone into hostile territory against an undetermined number of enemies, again against orders
- fail to report the discovery of an obviously alien object
- then proceed to fondle the *beep* thing with your bare *beep* hands!

reply

Oh no. It's on my PVR and I came here to see the rating and I so wanted to see a big number and now I'm already sad and I haven't even watched it.

reply

I watched all of it, but was disappointed.

The acting is terrible.

Overall, this is one of lamest special forces/government organizations I've ever seen--from the personnel to the HQ. I know there are probably budget issues here, but...wow...

As someone else mentioned, I was also annoyed by the team member completely ignoring all protocol for the raid.

And if these creatures are supposed to be terrorists, they should have spent time introducing the why and how of that. Instead we got a lame story where a woman is kidnapped and kept naked in small cage. If I want that, I'll watch an episode of "Criminal Minds."

reply

I forced myself to watch the whole thing.

At 16 minutes I was done and kept hoping it might get better.

The pilot should generate interest in the story; this one was like a dead Rabbit that just laid there for an hour.

Not sure what the idea was behind caged Rabbits and keep showing us scenes of them and the kidnapped lady in a cage.

The story was disjointed and inept. The story seemed thrown together like several episodes in one.

SyFy came out with Dark Matter & Killjoys which to me were better Sci Fi than this mess. Also, there was Defiance; which was OK.

If you watch the pilot it does one thing well; it eliminates any interest you may have in future episodes.

Though I will give the show a little more time (because, on average, pilot episodes are not that great to begin with), I agree with you. Hopefully it will improve enough to begin to captivate me, but I'm not really optimistic about that happening.

No blah, blah, blah!

reply

I did not find it bad at all, only things that botherd me was that the aliens lookt just like humans, only small differences and it feels like a rip off of "V"

And i understand why the girl whent alone to check something out and whent silent on the radio, she is a alien to and mabey she was afirad she will meet someone who will blow her cover as it seems she is on humanity side.
