Ugliest cast on TV
I had to avert my eyes. The humanity !
LOL, by "ugliest" I think you mean, "healthy" and "natural" and "realistic," right?
I noticed the moderation in polish, too, and I love it! No one seems to be starving or made up of mostly plastic... it's refreshing.
That whole ridiculous glorification of one type of image hasn't served cinema or tv well because people and their stories are more varied than that.
There's that whole science around beauty and symmetry and the Golden Mean but it doesn't take into account two things... not everyone loves symmetry... some value asymmetry much more... and also, people feel more attracted to what is familiar, so for example, if an Italian-American whom enjoyed admiration for their looks in America visited Italy, there, they'd find they were considered far more beautiful.
I figure when any of us walks into any room, some will think we are a god/goddess, while others will think us a dog. I like a quote from Marilyn Monroe, "A smile is the best makeup any girl can wear." LOL, same goes for boys.
This cast doesn't have that Hollywood cookie-cutter imagery, which is great for women because the "restrictions" on their looks have been to be tiny, weak and pleasing. These characters have strong faces, energetic bodies and forceful personalities which show in their strategy-minded eyes. That serves the story well.
I think it also opens up the writing for better male characters as they get to interact with peers and that is far more interesting.
So, Kudos to the Aussies for their artistic freedom and progress in diversity in media.😉
