Something is missing...

like a cohesive plot, some kind of objective, some type of structure. I'm on episode 3 and all I'm seeing is a series of mostly random day to day interactions, punctuated by that nervous, tentative, self-conscious dialog. It develops a bit like a Steinbeck novel, except it's not, and not even a good facsimile thereof. I've watched tv and read books before. Am I missing something, or is this thing totally devoid of structure?
