Jail time?

All I can say is Mina must have had a lousy lawyer.

I mean she confessed to the teenage accidental kill, she probably only got a couple years.

Somedays you just can't dispose of a bomb.

The scenario made no sense. The police would have found the injured boy, who could have been charged with breaking and entering. It was obvious the man fired the gun before he was hit on the head. The boy couldn't even stand up after being shot, so obviously someone else had struck the man with the board, and that looked like self defense, not intent to kill, because normally that wouldn't kill anyone. Besides, Mina's fingerprints would have been on the board, and not the boy's.

There was no reason to charge either of the kids with murder.

The script writers should have come up with a more believable scenario involving murder.

in most states a death in the commission of a felony automatically becomes a murder charge even if there was an element of self defense. since they were breaking and entering this would be one of those cases...

But the investigators still would have found that the boy couldn't have hit the man on the head from behind after the boy had been shot and was lying on the ground. Someone else was involved, and it wouldn't have been too hard to find our who with fingerprints and learning that Mina was his girlfriend.
I don't see how the boy would have been charged with the murder, because he couldn't have done it.

I believe that the script writers knew exactly what they were doing.
They understand that most American moviegoers don't have enough intelligence to analyze what they see. So now the movie makers sell to American public such a nonsense that a sixth grader should reject it on delivery.

How does she end up charged with murder at the end at all? The only one who can put her at the the murder is now dead.
So unless she voluntarily confessed out of guilt, I don't see how she ended up in jail at the end at all.
