Good, but missing something

Mike Birbiglia is one of the great storytellers of our time. That’s meant in the classical sense; much of his career circles around the ability to spin unusual autobiographical yarns in fascinating and warm fashions. His stand-up routines often feel more like monologues, and he’s a natural, regular fit on This American Life. If anything, his first directorial effort Sleepwalk With Me fell short because he hewed too closely to the lessons learned from those aforementioned mediums.
