Blu-ray release

Strictly as an homage to the giallo movement, Francesca is very successful, and absolutely worth seeing for fans of the sub-genre. As a film in general, it’s a little less successful, as the plot being told isn’t exactly original, and it plays a little disjointedly. Despite all the attempts to plant the viewer in a ’70s giallo environment, the obviously modern production and the also-obvious digital shoot frequently break that illusion, reminding the viewer that this is an experimental, modern, low-budget horror film that nearly but doesn’t quite accomplish its goal to satisfy both giallo fans and general viewers, therefore making it feel a little less special. If you were already a fan of Francesa, this handsome release from Unearthed Films is a no-brainer. For everyone else, make sure you know what you’re getting into. http://www.cutprintfilm.com/blu/francesca/
