A Bit Confused (spoilers)

The ending is trying to say that the family or at least the mother is a cannibal. But I kind of thought the school were cannibals also but I guess not. Was it just that the family are cannibals and the sister was trying to initiate her into what they naturally are?

I was confused too. I also thought the whole school was part of the cannibalistic ritual but it seems like it was only the family. From the father's conversation, it sounds like the mother is the one who started it.

Reviewers have said this movie is a unique "feminist take" on a coming of age story. Could it be suggesting it's the females in this movie who are the aggressors (sexual and otherwise). Maybe the mother started it, passed it to the sister, and the youngest sister also got it.

Yeah that makes sense now. I guess that's why they were vegetarians. She didn't want them to "develop" too soon. But the school had to have something to do with it also. I mean what would the mother and sister have done if the girl decided to go to another school.

The school was there as a stressful environment in which to put our heroine. The hazing unlocked the "latent" cannibalism and also made us feel sympathy towards a murderous cannibal. That's all that the school has to do with it really.

no. there was no feminist message whatsoever. spoiler. in my opinion the twist was about genetics. the film makes you think, that the supposed "animal" organ that she had to eat was infecting her, while it was actually a human organ, which takes us back to the metaphor to the dog related "once they have tastes human blood...", which is also why she was raised vegetarian, to prevent her from developing her lust for human blood/meat. brilliant.
