Art-House Horror Movies

In the last few years when there is buzz around an indie horror movie it is almost certainly in the Art-House territory(good or bad films). Just last year we had so many, The Witch, Baskin, Darling, The Neon Demon, The Childhood Of A Leader, Shelley, Demon, Evolution, The Eyes Of My Mother and much more...I didn't see Raw(Grave)but by the trailer and the reviews I am pretty sure it is an Art House Horror movie. Even if I like the majority of them I really think there are to many in this particular genre. I want to know what you guys think about it, am I wrong, is there not enough?

It is certainly. And art-house / independent films are better in every way.

I agree, I only Watch independent films. The last studio horror movie I saw was Don't Breathe and it was extremely bad.

There are never enough good art house movies, just like there are always too many bad art house movies. Just my two cents...

Don't forget Goodnight Mommy (Ich Seh Ich Seh). But yeah horror films these days are mostly under the monopoly of "the minds that brought you 13 Paranormal Activity movies, Sinister, the Purge, etc." AKA Blumhouse Productions. As a rule of thumb, if they're producing it, stay away. Another good indie horror film I liked was Resolution (2012) if you're looking for any.

Yeah Resolution was awesome. A good slow burn but not really an Art-House horror movie. Goodnight Mommy is a very good exemple of how to do a really good Art-House horror flick. The movie never put style over substance, there is a story and a good intrigue and it is also very scary. It reminded me of Funny Games(1997) by Michael Haneke.

funny games is not a horror film. actually it is quite the opposite.

I recommend Resolution to everyone! Such a great film! Sadly, most people just don’t “get” it. Side note=Spring (2014) is just as good (imo), although tonally very different. Justin Benson’s work is genre-bending in all the right ways. Have you seen Kill List (2011)? Highly recommend.

while we agree on kill list, i gotta agree with resolution. it had a cop out bs third act which could barely be worse.

I'm not sure if I'd call The Witch an arthouse horror movie, just because it has symbolism doesn't mean it's arthouse.
