I was almost AT Columbine

I was working as substitute teacher at the time and I was there five days earlier on April 15th. I remember between classes I went down and sat in the library (where most of the victims were killed)and read most of Elie Weisel's "Night", a book about the Holocaust. Then I got a call to go back there that day, but I turned it down because I had an interview for a full-time job (but I had several calls that day, so I wouldn't have necessarily taken the Columbine one). The school I was interviewing at was close to Columbine, so I was locked down there for two hours, but I never knew how bad it was until I got home and saw the news. . .

I have no special insight on what happened though. I understand why people are offended by the self-righteous "spin" the Christians have put on this, but they have the right to see things their way. I'm sure God loves them and when they get to what they consider Heaven, he might very well let them think that everyone else went to hell because it seems to be important to them that they are "right", even though anyone can read the Bible, and I just happen to believe a whole lot of it is bullsh*t obviously written by self-serving human beings (I don't believe Islamic terrorists will get a harem of virgins in the afterlife either). I just believe that there IS a God, death is not the end, and I will see my mother and my grandparents and my dead friends again someday. If other people's beliefs give them comfort, I'm not going to criticize THAT, as wrong as they may be about ME.

I THINK I remember Rachel Scott from Denver area forensics meets. She seemed like a sweet girl. I don't know why all those kids had to die that day--they were all younger than me back then and that was nearly 20 years ago. But wherever they went, we're all going to go someday, and I know we'll be fine.
