Wtf is this show?

Star is such a thot and it's distracting because in any other show she'd be the villian. The mentaly challenged sister is more just there in my opinion and not worth the screen time they give her. The black chick is hot and can probably sing but you'd never know because for the group to have no lead singers she does a lot more harmonizing and backing vocals then anything else *cough Kelly Rowland *cough. Then she hooks up with the lightest most Latino looking black guy ever and he's the most racial advocating person for blacks huh? Were there no black people left in Atlanta? That song they sang last episode "no men" or "girl power" whatever didn't even make sense. The chorus is like "I don't need a man" then the verse is like "I want a man to take me out wine and dine me but I got a job but I love you to buy me things, I don't need a man, I want a man..."

Though clearly stunt casting, that "Latino looking black guy"'s parents are:

Kim Porter (mother)- http://theybf.com/sites/default/files/522582_10151355024130765_1746568998_n-1.jpg

The guy is just an example of how unpredictable African American genes are. And there's no reason a light skinned black guy can't advocate for black people.

I don't trust people who don't like pets and I don't trust people who pets don't like.

 This kid was on My Super Sweet Sixteen with Diddy. I knew I remembered him from somewhere...

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."

reply

That's Al B. Sure's son? Nice.

'And there's no reason a light skinned black guy can't advocate for black people.'

Word. Harry Belafonte has been doing this all his life.

Hate-watching says more about the viewer than it does about the show.

^^^Exactly. It is a sad shame that this even needed to be said.

^^^Just wow. This has to be the stupidest comment ever-especially if coming from a Black person.
So everyone who advocates for Blacks has to be Black and they have to be dark in skin tone???

Tell that to Jesse Williams (Grey's Anatomy) who is an advocate, who has a white mom and Black dad,

and Google Angela Davis, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Louis Farrakhan, Andrew Young, Nikki Giovanni, Myrlie Evers-Williams.

The show is a mess and people are apparently hella triggered by a sentence. Yall Tyler Perry fans kill me. Enjoy your unrealistic and convoluted hood drama starring a hood thot, a rich thot, a crazy thot and Queen Latifah's wigs.

reply

This is not a Tyler Perry production ?

reply

Lee Daniels. It's in the same universe as Empire.

I was coming on her to ask the same question. I was unlucky enough to accidentally turn on my 10:00 news fifteen minutes too early. I saw Queen Latifah, and I LOVE her, and have always loved her since her rap days many years ago. Is this show trying a music "Empire" theme, who is that fluffy haired blonde girl? I'm just sitting here twisted af. Is this show worth it to watch? Anything that helps women, and minorities in film and tv, I like to give a shot. Please, no hate...I'm really asking questions.

reply

I really didn't like the pilot episode because after all the buildup I felt disappointed. However, I give every new show 3 chances, and I have to say each episode has improved. It's not MacBeth, but it's not trying to be either.

Don't compare it to Empire which is a drama with compelling characters set in the music world. This is more like a musical looking for a story. I'm still on the fence with a 6 rating but it's a weak six.
