SPOILERS: Advance operation before Chromite

SPOILERS * SPOILERS * SPOILERS

The movie is actually about Operation X-Ray, a preliminary military espionage operation to gather information on the defenses of Incheon harbor, such as underwater mine placement. It was hazardous in the extreme and everything went wrong but at the end the needed information had been obtained, at great cost in human life. Subsequently, Operation Chromite, the American flanking invasion of Incheon was a resounding success.

This movie will appeal to war movie fans, military historians, Korean War aficionados, and fans of veteran Irish actor, Liam Neeson. Remember him in KRULL (1983)? His acting endurance is incredible.

Trivia: Few people except military historians know that Operation CHROMITE had
been compromised. One ofhe most infamous 20th century traitors, Kim Philby,
a high-ranked executive operative in British Intelligence, MI-6, had
long ago become a Soviet communist sympathizer and betrayer of the
British people. The Americans informed their British ally of the
operation. Philby naturally secretly passed the information on to
Joseph Stalin who in turn informed the North Korean dictator, Kim
Il-Sung. But there was little that Kim could do with the information.
The vast majority of his military ground forces were committed around
the Pusan Perimeter. He had little military reserves and dared not
recall any military forces away from the Pusan Perimeter. Kim rolled
the dice and gambled that his army could collapse the Pusan Perimeter
before the Americans could take advantage of the Inchon invasion. It
was all or nothing and Kim lost. In the very end, Kim didn't lose. At
the point of total defeat five months later in the frozen north of
Korea, the Red Chinese intervened and pushed the Americans, the South
Koreans, and the allied nations troops south. Kim and North Korea were
saved but so was South Korea which became first a prosperous capitalist
nation and then a fully democratic one in the early 21st century.
