Will this be connected to Simba's Pride
or is it like an alternate timeline?
shareKhary Payton, the new voice actor for Rafiki, stated in a tweet that The Lion Guard happens after Simba's Pride: https://twitter.com/kharypayton/status/645426246352924674

That doesn't make much sense since Kiara is in Kion's age. The film and series take place between the two films.
shareYeah, I know it doesn't make sense. The creators of the series are retconning the film series so The Lion Guard is most likely a midquel during the events of Simba's Pride.

In regards to the tweet suggesting that TLG takes place after TLK2, I think perhaps the voice actor meant that it takes place after the beginning or first-half of TLK2. I can't imagine Disney would want to bother creating an alternate timeline for a kids' series, when it's not even a parody or something like the series Timon & Pumbaa or The Lion King 1 1/2. Judging from how story-oriented Return of the Roar was, I have a feeling they'll tie it in to the movie series, as someone else said as a midquel to TLK2.
However, they are going to have to explain where the Lion Guard and Kion went during the whole Outsiders situation in TLK2, a small army probably would've been useful during an attack by the Outsiders.
Can't be too careful with all those weirdos running around.
