Hmm, it does seem to have been over far too quickly. Maybe I was expecting too much from this really quite simple story :(

A lot of the book is left out. If more had been kept in, they could have gone to at least one more ep, perhaps two.

I'm re-reading the book (I'm about 15% of the way in through my Kindle) and have seen just the first two episodes so far. I know that a lot has to be left out, but, given how truncated the first 2 episodes feel, it would have been nice to see at least 1 or 2 more episodes to get more of the good stuff in.

Trollope is big on description, and some of that doesn't translate easily, but some of the background on the Greshams and the Doctor himself would have been nice. This Doctor is not the same as the one in the book. For example, this Doctor seems to be quite a bit more humble than the Doctor in the book is.

Plus, the series focuses on Mary, whereas the book also deals with the inner workings of the minds of other characters, namely Lady Arabella.

The changes don't surprise me, given how Downton Abbey was written. I'm guessing ITV wasn't offering more eps, but JF could have gotten them to give him more, if he'd been inclined to do so, given the success of Downton. Ironically, 6 years ago ITV gave him 4 eps for his Titanic mini. One or two more eps for this would have been nice.

Four episodes for a long Trollope novel but 6 episodes for Fellowes’s own novel, Belgravia.

I wish we could have had a couple of more episodes or another series as there was more they could have done and the characters were likeable

Its an extremely expensive looking little show and it does look gorgeous plus with great character actors.

It seems to me Amazon went short and sweet so that it didn't have to go cheap in any way.

I hope they do more period pieces, even if they are short. This one was lovely.

Hard to see how there *could* be more - it's an adaptation of a single novel, although as that novel is itself part of Trollope's extensive "Barsetshire Chronicles" series, perhaps we can hope that Julian Fellowes will turn his hand to, say, Barchester Towers or The Warden, the latter being recently re-issued under the Penguin Classics imprint in collaboration with Hatchard's Bookshop (London) in celebration of the book's status as number one on the list of Britain's most popular novels of the past 200 years.

There's already a superb adaptation of BT and The Warden. And frankly, I don't have much confidence that a Fellowes version could improve upon it. I'd much prefer they continued the series with Framley Parsonage.

I enjoyed it very much, and had become comfortable with all the characters, then it was over too soon. These things usually go at least eight episodes.
