Better than...

A Mighty Wind, but not as good as Guffman or Best in Show. I'd say it ties with For Your Consideration.

Fred Willard was the best, even though Parker Posey will always be my favorite. I think she was kinda underused here. Catherine OHara and Eugene Levy are definitely absent, and you can feel it.

I did like the nods to his other films, Ed Begley checking into a hotel, Jane Lynch's foot...and I did find it enjoyable, but it was not Christopher Guest at his finest.

Begley and Lynch's reactions to one-another's statements during the interview is some of the best stuff imo. Their squabbling is amusing but those faces say it all.

I'd say it was slightly above "For Your Consideration" but very marginally.
I know it's all a matter of perspective, but I can't believe anyone would think "Mascots" is *better* than "A Mighty Wind"!
I used to own all of the Christopher Guest films on Dvd, but a few years ago I purged a ton of movies and both "For Your Consideration" and "Best in Show" got the boot.
I just hardly ever watched them. I think I'd only seen both films twice.
Me getting rid of "Best in Show" probably seems crazy to many Guest fans though, so again - it's all subjective!
I think it's a toss up for a lot of die-hard Guest fans as to which film is better between "Best in Show" and "A Mighty Wind", but since I'm a singer and have never owned a dog or been to a dog show, I guess the latter film just resonated with me more.
I loved the songs so much I bought the CD too!
My Dad and I are both into a lot of folk music and we actually learned a few songs from the movie for fun back when it came out.
So, yeah...the only films still in my collection of Guest's are "Waiting for Guffman" (the 1st of his films that I ever saw and still my all-time favorite! It's so random and quotable) and "A Mighty Wind". And "This is Spinal Tap" (which I know Guest didn't direct, but it's got the same sensibility and fake documentary style as the films he later directed, so I always include them together and often show all 3 three to friends who have never seen his movies before, so that they get an idea as to the humor and style).
I will never sell them or give them away and I re-watch all 3 all the time!

Why does one have to be 'better?' Why can't you just keep two great films? For Your Consideration I get a little more, but even so, if you were doing a purge and owned all of the Christopher Guest films but weren't getting rid of them all, then you should have just kept them all. In a SEA of directors and bad movies, very, very few actually have a hit almost every single time. It's a good collection to have.

Also, you need to rewatch Best In Show. Only twice...
