20 million dollar budget?!
How the hell is this going to recoup money? Netflix doesn't have advertisements.
Right now. You are no longer in control.

You know these big companies--- it's a write off! They can just write it off.

Do you even know what a write off is?

"You don't even know what a write-off is."
"Do you?"
"No, I don't."
1. It's going to have a limited theatrical run. All of Netflix major original movies have had them in order for them to qualify for the Oscars and others during awards seasons.
2. They will likely also be selling DVDs and BluRays like they do their original series.
3. They charge a monthly fee for a reason. They're a global corporation. Their subscriber base brings in a ton of money. I'd worry about them recouping the $180 million budget on the The Get Down (2016) series.

Most people don't get Netflix for free.
shareDo you really think studio movies make money for the studios through box office?
It's all about PR and hype now. Movies are nothing but expensive commercials for stock market shares and licensing.
Netflix will sale the rights to the movie to networks worldwide, like they did with their shows (for example, in most of Europe, House of Cards and Orange... air on tv before they are available on Netflix).
Netflix has the smartest economic model of any content producer right now. Just like Amazon, they know what people watch. They don't guess via Nielsen's Statistical Model Voodoo Crystal Ball BS lol. They know. And they know how old the audience for whatever genre is, what their income is, how much money they spend on other things etc.
They don't have commercials but they do have product placement.

For a 1.26 billion dollar company $20 mil is a drop in the bucket.
