So, um, am I the only one who loved it!

It's probably Guest's second worst film, but I still found it incredibly entertaining, a few steps above FYC. The mascot performances were freakin' brilliant, how did people not love this? Jane Lynch as the 'celebrity' judge? Hahaha those scenes were great.

I admit I love Guest films, but god damn the hate here...I don't get it. I try to view things objectively, and I like to think I'm pretty good at it. The acting was more than comparable to every Guest film. The worst part was the similarity between old characters, but they were still different enough and, um, hello, it's a Guest film. The characters were just as demented-yet-normal. The writing, though slightly more childish than the others (but it's a film about mascots god damn), is still fantastically subtle and hilarious. I don't get it...

I mean, the only reasonable explanation other than trolls and cynics who hate everything is people's standards were sky rocket high. From a Guest fanboy who's seen every movie at least 20 times, IN REGARDS TO A GUEST FILM, this one did everything it should have. If this came out in place of FYC in 2006, I think it would have been a huge hit, and if FYC came out now after Mascots, also a hit. The laugh out loud tone of this would have gone great after the subtle humor in A Mighty Wind. FYC would have been a great 'where are they now' film for 2016, featuring all the classics. But

Anyways, I really hope people don't use these forums to decide if the movie's for them or not. The bias here is mind blowing, but I honestly think so many of these haters secretly or deep down did enjoy Mascots, but it wasn't as great as they were expecting, so they just go with 'it sucks.'

Just watched this last night for the first time. I was expecting this to be awful, considering all the reviews and comments. Man, I wasn't only pleasantly surprise, I was blown away! I laughed all the way through and there were several 'omg' moments (the scene with Fred Willard and the guy who played the worm had me in tears). I actually like this more than 'Best In Show' and it just might give my longtime fav 'A Mighty Wind' a run for its money. I thought the new actors blended in very well. Like you said, people should watch it on its own merit.

Just watched it again last night and A Mighty Wind today...I definitely think the hate is a case of nostalgia/expectations. There's simply no way people can find one movie gold and the other trash, they are so similar in so many ways. And let's be real, IMDB users aren't known for using reason over emotion.

Sure Mascots has a few slightly more outrageous humor moments going for laughs out loud instead of quietly inside. But overall it's another work of Guest art that any real fan of his (and/or decent person) will appreciate and I look forward to watching it 20-100 more times!
