An amazing build up completely ruined by the plot twist and ending

Baskin had tons of potential. Everything about the beginning of this movie was eerie and unnerving. Watching Seyfi's face as he screams/loses his mind in the bathroom mirror at the beginning of the movie was very unsettling, and in my gut I had a feeling that I was going to be in for some good psychological horror, and oh boy, was I ever. The mounting dread, atmosphere, and choice of location in the abandoned building all created this fantastic premise that promised a Suspiria-esque *beep* But instead, all we got was some lame Blair Witch Project meets Your-typical-cliche-time-loop-expanation-to-describe-a-state-of-purgatory-after-death.

I feel that the movie gets ruined once the evil cleric begins pulling the chain out from the dark room (the chain wrapped around Father Baba). From there on out, it's just nonsensical religious dialogue mixed with two sequences of Hostel-styled TorturePorn.

The TorturePorn is kind of brutal, but ultimately it just comes off farcical.

I was really excited when this movie started out, but unfortunately I was extremely let down and disappointed once I realized the plot twist as Arda goes out the front door and steps onto the road. As soon as he steps on the road, I realize "Oh *beep* they're about to do the ultimate cop-out and blame it on some infinite time loop" .. .

6/10.

I don't know - I don't view this type of ending as a cop out. I really haven't seen too many films that have to do with purgatory. Southbound was eh. Was going to watch triangle but I stumbled upon a spoiler.

For me, this movie's insane. Very nightmarish. Characters are completely believable - maybe besides the young male character. But it doesn't matter. I sort of went in knowing nothing and was real impressed with some of the cinematography. Definitely reminded me of Refn but Baskin really felt like a classic horror film. You could tell some of the scenes were a homage to some legendary directors (Scorsese, Carpenter, again; Refn, and i forget the name but the Italian guy who did Suspiria). This movie isn't torture porn. That phrase is annoying and immature IMO. No offense. This movie has a pretty heavy handed story involving a couple a cops who accidently go to hell. There's a lot of symbolism too; mostly biblical/ satanical. I think true horror film buffs will enjoy this. If it doesn't somewhat creep you out- than that's an issue.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, Southbound deals with purgatory. Good film if you ask me...

All you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun.

"Good" "OK.". Sounds about right for Southbound. Nowhere near as good as Baskin tho.

I'm an extreme horror buff. They're all I watch. This was a tiresome, mess of a film. Characters were believable? Then the people in your life need extermination. What an irredeemable piece of garbage. The sort of people that will like this movie are missing a few brain cells, or never had them to begin with. The most hateable group of useless people you'll see in a film. Shockingly bad movie. Thankyou for wasting my time.

So you enjoyed it then.
