Is This Arguably / Possibly Science Fiction?

I know it's first and foremost horror. It's also classified here as just fantasy, but by Metacritic as both sci-fi and fantasy.

Without any spoilers, if there's a possible science-fictional explanation for whatever happens, I'd like to know. I'd check it out for my comprehensive indie sci-fi list http://www.imdb.com/list/ls076641370/

I have no idea why this would be classified as science fiction. Fantasy maybe, but to me it seems pretty straightforward that this is a horror movie.

There are no elements of futurism, no technology, no involvement of aliens, etc.

Thanks! That was my guess. I may still check it out, but it's a lot less of a priority if it's just horror with some fantasy.
