Seems like the Shining was a big inspiration for this one?

Historical tragedy subtext mixed with a ghost story
insanity or actual ghosts(?)
The "let's pretend it didn't happen" speech at the end (repression of facts)
The photo at the end

Yep, I've noticed some of that too. Especially the photo at the end, it was pretty clear.
