1. Why did Irrfan's associate betray him? Did I miss anything? Or was it just sleazy thirst for power and/or some high-fundoo insubordination?

The new CBI officer in command was a friend of Police Commissioner and Noida police gave their suspicion towards Mother and Father in front of whole world. The way Irrfan investigated the case it was clear that it wasn't the parents but the servant's friends who killed her, now Noida police was under-pressure because of the way they have handled this case so in order to save their ass it is assumed that Police Commissioner had took help from the new CBI chief so that the case stays against the Talwar family.
Then there was a scene when CBI Officer asks Irrfan's associate about his promotion and from there he change his sides and find a way to betray Irrfan.

There's a scene where you see the newly-appointed CBI Chief interact with Irrfan's associate. Obviously they don't play out their entire conversation. But that's pretty much where all the 'betrayal' happens.
Quite liked the film. Thought-provoking and engaging.
Yes, got it. Even I liked the movie; one of the few Bollywood films worth spending time and money for.

There was a scene where the new CBI chief disowns Irfan Khan and orders him to leave. Later in a scene the assistant to Irfan khan meets the CBI chief asking for his opinion might be biased so they should hire a new investigation officer. In that scene, the chief says that his promotion was due, and he replied that it is a bit far and chief replied, it could come sooner too.
There in my guess, he changed the sides.
