It's an impossible one to answer on, I'm afraid. I thought it was excellent and enjoyed every episode, each of which to me were a self-contained ghost story with an almost separate running links to form a series.
If, in any drama or comedy, you find that you aren't interested in the story and don't care about the characters to the degree you describe, then surely there's no reason to go on with anything. So that must apply here. It's not a set homework :-)
I'm sorry you didn't get what I got from it, I'm really looking forward to the second series. But each to their own, everyone's different and I wish you well.

Thanks for your answer, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I normally enjoy spooky stories and period drama so I expected to love this, and felt let down when I didn't.
But there's plenty more to choose from. If the rest of the series is more of the same I shall simply give it a miss and move on.
*Edit* By the way, thanks for being respectful of my opinion. Good manners are increasingly rare on these boards. It was nice to be able to ask an honest question and get a polite and thoughtful response.
