I am only on Ep 2 so please no spoilers.
I'm not sure what language this movie is in. At first I assumed it was Spanish, but it really doesn't sound like it. I feel like I'm hearing a made up language. Anyone?
I'm hearing English. It's clearly English. But it's like it isn't synced to the mouth movements. It's very distracting and I may not be able to watch. On the first episode.
Of course, yea, the words and credits and such are in another language but Netflix translates it I guess cuz it's also in English at the bottom. Lol
Read another thread..... ahhh it's dubbed. Ok makes sense.
shareIf you watch it on Netflix, they offer original language with English subs, or sometimes English dubs. I hate reading the TV and sometimes miss what's happening onscreen, so I always go for the dubs. But yeah, it's usually like watching badly synced Hong-Kong fight flicks at times. Lol.

It's kind of annoying for me too. I'm a Spanish native speaker and I can basically always understand what they are saying or in some cases I get the idea. Portuguese and Spanish are quite similar.
I like to watch films with english subs or audio so I can continue practicing english. I watch it with the original Portuguese audio, english subs. Sometimes It becomes a mess for me when they talk in Portuguese and I can understand what they say as if it were Spanish and while reading english subs... 3 languages at the same time drives me crazy.
why not watch it in portuguese with english language subtitles?

sharei tend to watch tv with subtitles on, so when i first started watching this it was english audio and english subtitles, because i guess netflix just automatically chose english audio for me. but they didn't match at all, and the dubbing sounded like it was probably more accurate than the subtitles read to me. the english subtitles seemed like they just oversimplified all of the dialogue, often to the point of changing the meaning of what the characters were actually saying.
so i ended up turning subtitles off and keeping english audio.
Actually subtitles are usually more accurate because there's less pressure to sync up with the actors' lips. (There are also more resources to go to a decent translation as compared to paying a casting director and new actors, and the additional time going into all that.) Also, I was under the impression the tendency for translators to favour localization (replacing original cultural references with target cultural references) over accuracy is stronger with dubs. I've generally found these to be the case for the odd French or Japanese productions I've checked anyway. If a Portuguese speaker can verify otherwise, I'd love to hear about it from them, though.
shareExactly! Do people really watch everything dubbed? C'mon, watching Kurosawa, Bergman, Fellini and others dubbed is a huge waste... Half the acting work is in the voices, even if you don't understand the meaning of the words...
shareYes to all of this. Having watched anime for a long time, being able to hear the original voice actors makes a big difference in a show. Even if you miss some smaller things, it's absolutely worth the sacrifice to hear everything exactly the way the director intended it.
