forced ending

it's obvious that the ending is there just to make the movie feel like it's "real life". it ended being dull and unrealistic. i mean, do you guys think it works like this in real life? why all movies today want to be so realistic anyway? what's so special about real life?
the ending throws away every character development. it's really, really off character of jake to ignore tony and to just forgive their parents. there isn't even a scene where he deals with their parents decision or confronts them. it's inconsistent with the character, and inconsistent with the movie. also, not showing what happens with tony is also a huge problem. the ending made a good movie become a shallow movie, that tries to imitate life and fails miserably.
i'm not saying it should have a happy ending. i'm saying it should have a consistent ending.
